Michael A. Blakley

Army Pvt. Michael A. Blakley has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Blakley is the son of Larry and Sherry Blakley of Alvada, Ohio. He is a 2014 graduate of New Riegel High School, New Riegel, Ohio.

Austin W. Brock

Air Force Airman 1st Class Austin W. Brock graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Brock is the son of Angie A. Brock of Delphos, Ohio, and Tim P. Brock of Ada, Ohio, and brother of Leigh A. Brock of Ottawa, Ohio, and Julie A. Brock of San Diego, Calif. He is also the grandson of Virgil and Gerri Brock of Lima, Ohio. The airman graduated in 2013 from Delphos Jefferson High School, Delphos, Ohio.

Michael S. Hughes

Staff sergeant Michael S. Hughes has graduated from the Basic Air Force Photojournalist Course at the Defense Information School (DINFOS), Fort George G. Meade, Md. This course trains selected enlisted personnel in the principles, techniques and skills required to perform the duties and functions of public affairs specialists. Students learn how to interact with military leaders, community members and media representatives, and prepare and release information for external and internal audiences.

Hughes is the husband of Amanda St. John. He is also the son of Michael P. Hughes of Lawrenceburg, Ind., grandson of Elizabeth Allen of Laurel, Ind., and nephew of Dianne Babuich of Toledo, Ohio.

The airman graduated in 2005 from East Central High School, St. Leon, Ind., and he earned a bachelor’s degree in 2014 from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio.

David D. Kretz

David D. Kretz has been promoted to the rank of colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Kretz is currently serving as the deputy commander of Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations, Dover Air Force Base, Del. He has served in the military for 29 years.
