An Ottawa village council member’s involvement in a fatal crash late last week has led to him stepping down. The Putnam County Sentinel reports Jeff Ducey resigned “effective immediately” following a Friday crash.

The State Highway Patrol reports the Friday afternoon crash happened on State Route 65 near the intersection of Road 9-K. Ducey was driving north when he crossed the center line and hit a car driven by Christine Hayden of Columbus Grove. Hayden and a passenger, Joan Beam, were both killed.

A third car driven by Asa Mortimor of Columbus Grove was also involved in the crash. Mortimor was treated and released. Ducey was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima for treatment of serious injuries.
