iStock/Thinkstock(SEATTLE) — Retail marijuana sales in Washington State will start Tuesday, as the first licenses are set to go out Monday.
The first licenses will go out via e-mail early Monday morning, and retailers then have to wait 24 hours before they open for business.
Pot grower Bob Leeds of Sea Green Farms says he can’t ship anything until the day after the licenses arrive, and he says getting the marijuana to the retailer is a process.
“There’s a 24 hour wait, the truck has to be registered, the driver has to be registered with the state, and it has to go into a lock-box in the vehicle and it’s supposed to be bolted to the frame of the vehicle,” Leeds said.
Washington is the second state after Colorado to legalize the retail sale of marijuana to adults. A gram of marijuana is estimated to cost between $20 and $25.
