Misconduct Alleged In Seneca County Village

12/11/13 – 6:45 P.M.

The village of Bettsville is trying to sort through allegations of misconduct in the village police department. The Advertiser-Tribune reports officer Shawn Beckley gave a statement addressing the issues during a council meeting this week. The specific allegations were not made public, but Beckley urged councilors to address and investigate the formal complaint.

Officer Nick Baker was the acting police chief following the resignation of Don Mason, but stepped down when he and council couldn’t find common ground on personnel in the department. Councilman-elect Stan Poe was at the meeting, and said that council had overstepped its power for allegedly stipulating Baker could only be the interim chief if they could pick the department’s sergeant.
