Mother Of Accused Wood County Shooter Pleads His Case

12/12/13 – 12:38 P.M.

The mother of a man accused in a Wood County shooting is trying to clear her son’s name. Arlene Boyer spoke to us today, saying her son Thomas was trying to defend family property on the day he was accused of shooting a man in the back in Custar on November 20.

Arlene Boyer says she owns the house where the incident took place. Two men came to the house on the 20th and said they were there to winterize it as part of a foreclosure process. Boyer says she’s been in a dispute about the property with a reverse mortgage company, Financial Freedom. She adds the men, 42-year-old William Morris and Phillip Butler, did not have a court order or a sheriff’s order to be on the property. The home is scheduled to be part of an upcoming sheriff’s sale according to the Wood County Sheriff’s Website

Arlene Boyer also says she and her family haven’t been able to talk to Thomas since his indictment. According to Boyer, Thomas has been receiving a psychiatric evaluation. He’s set to be arraigned on the 16th.
