Charles Eshelman/FilmMagic/Getty Images(NEW YORK ) — Former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw has revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer.
Brokaw, 72, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer affecting blood cells in the bone marrow, last August at the Mayo Clinic. His doctors are optimistic about his treatment.
Brokaw says in a statement, “With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come.”
He adds, “I remain the luckiest guy I know.”
Brokaw began working for NBC News in 1966. He was the anchor of NBC Nightly News from 1983 to 2004, when he was replaced by Brian Williams. He currently serves as a special correspondent for NBC News.
