The Hancock County Sheriff’s office is warning people of recent phone scamming attempts to acquire money.
Deputies are investigating multiple complaints of a person contacting victims and claiming to be employed with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office. The caller claims they have failed to respond to correspondence from the sheriff’s office and a bench warrant for their arrest has been issued. The caller will advise the victim to place a certain amount of money on prepaid credit cards and send the card numbers to the caller to have the warrant recalled.
Deputies said they do not request money from people via telephone.
