More Ottawa Properties Could Be Considered At High Risk For Flooding

6/12/14 – 4:49 A.M.

More Ottawa properties could be designated as high risks for flood water inundation if a new FEMA flood map is approved. The Putnam County Sentinel reports the village recently received preliminary flood maps. The biggest change is that zones of moderate to minimal risk have all been moved into high risk areas.

If the map is approved, it could mean more Ottawa residents would be required to carry flood insurance, or see changes in their current flood protection rates.

FEMA will hold public meetings on the issue. No meetings have been scheduled yet.
