The Putnam County Commissioners will appeal an appeals court ruling about the expansion of Road 5. The Putnam County Sentinel reports a 2-1 vote means the matter will now be taken to the Ohio Supreme Court.
Residents along Road 5 said meetings about the proposed expansion violated Ohio open meeting laws. The Putnam County Common Pleas Court ruled against them. That allowed construction to move forward. But the Third Appellate District Court of Appeals overturned that decision last month.
Commissioner Travis Jerwers voted against the appeal. He said it would only cost the county more money in legal fees. Commissioner Vince Schroeder tells the newspaper it’s possible they’ll try and negotiate with the plaintiffs while the appeals process moves forward.
