State Patrol Gives FPD Advanced Crash Mapping Tool

12/2/13 – 7:41 A.M.

The Findlay Police Department has a new, highly effective tool when it comes to reporting car crashes. The Courier reports the State Highway Patrol gave the police department what’s known as automatic Total Station accident reconstruction equipment. The new gear helps police accurately measure crash and crime scenes. Lt. Christopher Kinn tells the newspaper the station can pinpoint a vehicle’s location on a map within a few centimeters.

The cost of the equipment can be around $10,000. The patrol received a grant to buy the station, and then passed it along to the Findlay Police Department.

Officials say the new gear will also help speed up crash investigations.
