An incumbent Wyandot County Commissioner will face two challengers in the May primary. The Courier reports Ron Metzger is being challenged by Carey’s Ed Boutwell and Robin Shuster of Upper Sandusky.

Metzger was elected to complete an unexpired term in 2012. Boutwell is a retired vocational agriculture teacher for Carey and Riverdale schools and ran for a commissioners seat in 2000. Schuster is a florist in Upper Sandusky. He previously sought a commissioner’s seat in 2012.

State Senator Cliff Hite will be involved in a three-way primary race for his seat in the state house. The Courier reports three people have filed to run for the position. Hite was appointed to the seat in 2011 when Steve Buehrer was appointed to the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. Hite was then elected to the seat in 2012.

He’s being challenged by Milo Shaffner of Van Wert and Corey Shankleton of Kunkle, which is located in northern Williams County. Shaffner is a trustee for Hoaglin Township in Van Wert County. He has worked as a tool and die maker and vocational teacher. He is also a small business owner and farmer.

No information was available on Shankleton.

The Hancock County Board of Elections was closed yesterday while the county was under a level 3 snow emergency.  That presented a problem, because yesterday was supposed to have been the deadline for candidates to file to run in the May primary election.  However since the offices were closed, the state allowed the board to extend the deadline to 4 p.m. this afternoon.
