Jack Taylor is a longtime Findlay educator, musician, composer and arranger. Join WFIN as we feature his words and music in a special series…”In Tune with Jack Taylor”. Under his direction, bands from Findlay have performed across the country and overseas as well. “In Tune with Jack Taylor”, an eight-week series, begins Sunday, October 6th at 10AM on 1330, WFIN and at WFIN-dot-com. “In Tune with Jack Taylor” will spotlight the words and music this accomplished educator and musician.
Professor of Music and Director of Bands at The University of Findlay, Jack Taylor holds a BS Degree in Music Education from West Chester University in Pennsylvania and an MM degree in Jazz Performance from Yale. ln addition to conducting the University Jazz Ensemble, Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble, Taylor series as Musical Director for the Findlay Civic Concert Band and the Flag City U.S.A. Civic Concert Bands. Under his direction, bands from Findlay have performed extensively throughout the country and have appeared overseas presenting concerts in Australia, Austria, Canada, England, Germany, Hawaii, New Zealand, Scotland, and Switzerland.
As a composer and arranger, Taylor’s music can be found in the libraries of many educational, civic, and professional instrumental ensembles in the United States and abroad. He has received commissions to write for Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, Show Choirs, as well as solo/chamber instrumental works. In 1996, his Flag City March was proclaimed the Official March of the City of Findlay by Mayor John Stozich. In April of 2001, Taylor premiered a suite in 10 movements for band, organist, and narrator entitled “Hymnal.” Four of his arrangements and compositions can be heard on the latest album of the Toledo Jazz Orchestra entitled ‘Groovin’ Selections from this recording are now being aired regularly on Toledo Public Radio.
In addition to his work as an educator and composer, Taylor remains active as a freelance jazz saxophonist and keyboardist appearing regularly with the Toledo Jazz Orchestra, Toledo Symphony Orchestra, and other local professional groups.
