10/10/18 – 4:34 A.M.
A Findlay native charged with stealing more than $1.2 million in high-end wine from his boss apparently jumped to his death at a Manhattan hotel Tuesday. WRAL-TV reports 41-year-old Nicolas De-Meyer was set to appear in federal court at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police responded to the hotel just after that time.
De-Meyer was facing a count of interstate transportation of stolen property. The New York Post reports he was going to plead guilty. He faced up to 10 years in prison.
De-Meyer worked as a personal assistant to David Solomon for eight years. Solomon is now the CEO of Goldman Sachs. Federal prosecutors say De-Meyer was supposed to deliver shipments of wine to Solomons wine cellar. De-Meyer allegedly stole hundreds of bottles and sold them to a dealer in North Carolina.
