Fatal Crash In Findlay Under Investigation

Officers were dispatched to an injury crash on W. Trenton Ave. at the northbound ramp of I-75 at 9:35 p.m. Friday.

The details of the crash are as follows; A gray 2023 Kia Sorento driven by Eric Stuber, 40 of Leipsic was stopped facing westbound on W. Trenton Ave. in the inside westbound lane waiting for a red traffic light.

A white 2007 Ford Focus driven by Clarance Bethel II, 45 of Fostoria was stopped facing westbound in the right turn only lane of W. Trenton Ave. to merge onto I-75.

A silver 2024 Nissan Altima driven by Kalid Abdulaziz Abukar, 40 of Lansing Michigan was traveling northbound on the I-75 northbound exit ramp. Abukar was traveling at a high rate of speed and as he approached W. Trenton Ave he lost control of his vehicle.

The Nissan continued northbound and the right front of the Nissan struck the the left front of the Kia.

The Nissan continued northbound and the front of the Nissan struck the Ford near the driver’s door.

The Ford and Nissan then traveling northbound and were wedged under the guardrail.

Stuber was checked out by Hanco EMS but was not transported.

Abukar was transported by Hanco EMS to Blanchard Valley Hospital with serious injury.

Bethel was pronounced deceased on scene.

An investigation is ongoing and charges will be submitted at the conclusion of the investigation. Assisting at the scene was the Findlay Fire Department, Hanco EMS, Hancock County Coroners Office, and Frank’s Towing.
