ODOT Removing Intersection On U.S. 23

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will permanently remove access to U.S. 23/U.S. 30 from County Highway 121 in the city of Upper Sandusky. (map below)

“ODOT’s long-range objective is to improve safety along the divided four-lane highway by eliminating direct access from side roads,” said Chris Hughes, ODOT District 1 deputy director. “We worked closely with Wyandot County officials on the overall plan for the corridor. All involved recognize that safety will be greatly improved by eventually eliminating at-grade intersections, and providing access at interchanges instead,” he said.

The north leg will close on Wednesday, March 11, and the south leg will follow approximately one month later in early April. Barrels and barricades will be placed at the intersection to eliminate access to U.S. 23. Work to remove the pavement, cut in the ditch, and install right-of-way fence will follow as weather permits.

Signs on U.S. 23/U.S. 30 and the local roads approaching the intersection will be modified to reflect the change in access.

Traffic volumes on the overlap segment of U.S. 23 and U.S 30 are consistently near that of interstates where access is available only at interchanges.
