Police Department Warns Of Scam
(From the Findlay Police Department)
The Findlay Police Department has been made aware of the circulation of fake emails/email scams claiming to be from the United States Postal Service that indicate you have a certified letter that can’t be delivered.
The sender/potential scammer indicates that the letter is from a government agency, in this case the Findlay Police Department Special Services Division and gives directions on how to resolve the matter by calling the number indicated. The user is usually advised they have a warrant/unpaid violations and can be arrested if they do not make payment.
While government agencies do in fact use the USPS and certified mail, please be aware this is a common scam. If you have questions regarding the legitimacy of any such email, inspect the email for any discrepancies. This might include grammatical mistakes, strange salutations or email addresses not ending in .gov. Alternatively, you can contact the agency at a number you know to be valid and not the number provided in the email or link.
Please pass along to family members who might be vulnerable to such scams.
