Tiffin Police Department Investigating Aggravated Burglary/Felonious Assault Incident
At approximately 2:57 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, officers from the Tiffin Police Department responded to a reported burglary in progress at Tiffin West Apartments, located at 1730 W. Market Street. Police dispatch was informed that multiple individuals had been injured during the incident.
Upon arrival, officers located four adult male victims suffering from significant facial and head injuries. Preliminary investigation revealed that the injuries were sustained during an assault involving eight male suspects who allegedly forced their way into an apartment and violently attacked the occupants using their fists and various objects as weapons.
The investigation has determined that the incident stemmed from an earlier altercation that occurred late Friday evening in the area of the former Big Lots parking lot. During that incident, a male victim was reportedly assaulted by a group of individuals who allegedly stole his hat and chain necklace before leaving the area.
In an attempt to recover his property, the victim and four acquaintances later went to the apartment complex and spoke with a female at the apartment door. During that interaction, three additional individuals arrived at the location. Detectives believe that five of the eight suspects subsequently forced entry into the apartment after the door was closed and began assaulting the individuals inside.
A resident inside the apartment was able to contact 9-1-1, prompting all eight suspects to flee the scene in vehicles prior to officers’ arrival.
All four injured victims were transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital for treatment of facial and head injuries. Due to the severity of his injuries, one victim was later transferred to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo for additional medical care.
Members of the Tiffin Police Department Criminal Division were notified and immediately initiated an extensive investigation. Detectives have conducted numerous interviews with victims and witnesses and continue to collect and process evidence.
Investigators have recovered items believed to be connected to the incident, including the stolen hat and chain necklace. Detectives have also identified an interior surveillance camera within the apartment that may have some potential evidentiary value.
As a result of the investigation, two of the individuals believed to have forcibly entered the residence have been taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Burglary, a first-degree felony. Additional criminal charges are anticipated pending further investigation and consultation with the Seneca County Prosecutor’s Office. Detectives are actively working to identify and locate the remaining suspects involved in the incident.
At this stage of the investigation, the identities of all victims, witnesses, and suspects are being withheld to protect the integrity of the investigation and to allow investigators the opportunity to identify and interview all involved parties. Investigators believe the individuals directly involved range in age from approximately 18 to 21 years old, although additional suspects who have not yet been located may be older.
This was a violent and brazen attack that resulted in serious injuries to multiple individuals. Our Officers and Detectives have worked tirelessly throughout the early morning hours and continue their work today to identify those responsible and bring them to justice. While two suspects are already in custody, we remain committed to locating the remaining individuals involved and pursuing all appropriate criminal charges.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Tiffin Police Department Criminal Division at 419-447-2323.
