A soil health journey in Seneca County leads to regenerative agriculture

If you glance across the rolling fields of Margraf Farms in Seneca County, you will see row crops, poly-cropping systems, pasture areas, a lot of fencing, and cattle grazing. While this may not seem like an unusual sight in many parts of the country, it has been a journey for a farm that had no livestock for decades, in an area where livestock confinement systems are far more common than seeing cattle on pasture.
Bret Margraf and his wife, Beth, farm with their children, Chet, Aubrey, Jace and Kael run the farm with help from his retired parents, Gene and Peg. The Margrafs’ farm is located northwest of McCutchenville and is in the Sandusky River watershed. They are participants in the H2Ohio program.
