Police Officer Presented With Life Saving Award

Tonight, I had the privilege of recognizing Sergeant Jared Watson with the Tiffin Police Department Life Saving Award during City Council.

On June 1, 2026, Sgt. Watson responded to a critical incident involving a 13-year-old juvenile in severe mental health crisis who was actively suicidal and had access to a firearm. Through approximately 30 minutes of calm, compassionate, and professional crisis intervention, Sgt. Watson was able to establish trust, de-escalate the situation, and convince the juvenile to safely surrender and accept help.

Because of his actions, a life was saved. This outcome was the direct result of his training, patience, and commitment to preserving life in the most difficult of circumstances.

This marks Sgt. Watson’s second Life Saving Award, and I am proud to recognize his continued dedication to service and the Tiffin Police Department’s mission.
