Rainfall Benefits Developing Corn and Soybeans
Timely rains boosted soil moisture levels across Ohio during the past week, providing favorable conditions for developing corn and soybean crops while farmers continue to harvest winter wheat. USDA reports there were 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending July 12.
Corn silking has reached 17%, ahead of last weeks 5%, and trending right along with the 17% 5-year average. Ohio corn condition was rated 64% good to excellent, with 53% good and 11% excellent.
Soybean blooming reached 25%, ahead of 14% last week, but behind the 33% average. Soybean pod setting has reached 6%, just behind the 7% average. Ohio soybean condition was rated 63% good to excellent, with 52% good and 11% excellent.
Winter wheat is 76% harvested, which is right in line with the 76% five-year average.
Oats were 89% headed, ahead of the 81% last week, but behind the average of 93%. Oat harvest is 10% complete, ahead of the 6% 5-year average.… Continue reading
