Harvest safety with children on the farm

In many cases it has been a long, frustrating harvest for many farms in Ohio. As the end of harvest approaches, it is still important to keep safety in mind, especially when young children — who maybe haven’t seen much of their parents lately — are involved.

Farm children have a long history of being involved at an early age in their family’s operations, but as farm scale and equipment size has evolved, it can sometimes be a challenge to determine age-appropriate activities and jobs for the youngest members of a family farm.
