Ohio farmers poised to benefit from U.S.-U.K. trade agreement
As planting season continues across the country, the recently announced trade deal between the United Kingdom (U.K.) and the United States (U.S.) is widely being viewed as a win for farmers in Ohio.
“We are encouraged to see that agriculture has been prioritized in these international trade negotiations,” said Tadd Nicholson, Executive Director of the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association. “This trade deal opens up an important market for U.S. ethanol, made from Ohio corn, and positions our farmers for long-term financial stability and growth.”
Key highlights of the agreement, unveiled by the White House on May 8, 2025, include:
- Eliminating the U.K.’s 19% tariff on U.S. ethanol expands access to the U.K. market for American corn biofuel.
- Establishing a $700 million secure market for U.S. ethanol exports, aiding Ohio corn growers and the agricultural sector.
- Helping U.S. companies compete fairly for U.K. government contracts by closing trade loopholes.
