Hancock County Fair Gets Harness Racing Grants
8/29/18 – 5:17 A.M.
The Hancock County Fair has received two grants to promote harness racing this year. The Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association recently awarded the event two $1,500 matching grants. One of the grants is for a race in honor of “Doc” Schoonover. Schoonover was a McComb native who was a lifelong supporter of harness racing. He began racing in 1949 and became the oldest winning driver at the age of 93 when he won at the Attica Independent Fair in 2011.
The second grant is for the Hancock County Agricultural Society Pace. The association awarded it to the fair in recognition of the fair board’s support of harness racing and commitment to the fair’s speed program.
