Liberty-Benton Superintendent Gives “State Of The District” Update
3/12/19 – 5:11 A.M.
Liberty-Benton Superintendent Mark Kowalksi talked to district residents about the school’s achievements during a “state of the schools” presentation Monday. He also talked about the need to pass a property tax issue to build a new kindergarten through eighth-grade building.
The 35-year, 7.3-mill bond issue would build a new K-8 school and fund renovations at the high school. It would also pay for a new auditorium. Tax collection would start in January of 2020. That’s after the district makes the final payment on the high school. Kowalski says that because of that, residents would not pay double payments for the high school and the new facilities.
The district says they need to build a new K-8 building because the current facility is aging poorly. Parts of the building date back to 1921, creating mechanical and structural issues.
