Ohio EPA Says Findlay Water Is Not Harmful
10/24/18 – 5:10 A.M.
The Ohio EPA has looked into recent complaints about Findlay’s water supply. Spokesperson Dina Pierce tells the Courier the city’s water supply is safe. She adds that taste and smell are “considered secondary issues” by the EPA. She adds you might want to use bottled water to avoid the taste or smell, but otherwise the water isn’t harmful.
The Findlay Water Department is flushing lines citywide to clear the system. Water Superintendent Jason Phillips said it will take a few more days.
Earlier this week, safety director Paul Schmelzer explained that the water is safe. He said the bad taste and smell is due to the reservoirs turning over. This happens when an extreme temperature change causes warm water from the bottom of the reservoir to rise up into the water treatment plant. The water is heavier with organic matter which causes a bad smell or taste.
