West Nile Discovered In Seneca County Mosquito Pools

8/1/18 – 7:20 A.M.

Mosquitoes in Seneca County have tested positive for the West Nile Virus. The Review-Times reports 11 pools of mosquitos from four locations in the county recently showed positive tests. County Health Commissioner Beth Schweitzer says they haven’t seen any human West Nile infections.

The virus spreads through the bite of an infected mosquito. Schweitzer says you can stay safe by using insect repellents on exposed skin when you are outside. Peak mosquito biting hours are from dusk to dawn. You can also help reduce mosquito pools by taking care of standing water on your property.
