Ohio Crops Off to a Strong Start as Planting Wraps

Ohio farmers finished with corn planting and are only a few passes away from getting all the soybeans in the ground. The drier weather continued, allowing many to complete the next steps in the spring growing season. USDA reports there were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending June 14.

Corn emergence reached 91%, ahead of last week’s 75% and the 89% average. Ohio corn condition was rated 64% good to excellent, with 51% good and 13% excellent.

Soybeans were 96% planted, up from 85% last week and ahead of the 92% five-year average. Soybean emergence reached 87%, ahead of 69% last week, but behind the 91% average.

Winter wheat was 100% headed, ahead of the 97% five-year average. Ohio wheat condition was rated 64% good to excellent, with 56% good and 8% excellent.

Oats were 31% headed, ahead of the 8% last week, but behind the average of 42%.… Continue reading
