Firefighters Attempt To Rescue Deer From Ice On Reservoir
3/4/19 – 5:34 A.M.
Findlay firefighters worked to rescue a deer stuck on ice on the Findlay Reservoir over the weekend, but ultimately they had to put the animal down. The city’s Facebook page says officials from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources advised the city to let the animal make it back to shore on its own last Thursday. After two days the city tried to help the animal.
Rescue workers checked the thickness of the ice with a drone. They then approached the deer, but the animal jumped into the water. The firefighters also entered the water and were able to secure the deer in a boat within about 20 minutes.
Unfortunately, state wildlife officials said the animal was too weak to survive, so they humanely put the deer down.
