Governor Says Death Penalty Should Be Abolished In Ohio

(ONN) – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has officially called for the state legislature to repeal the death penalty in the Buckeye State.

The announcement follows seven years of stayed executions during his two terms, driven by the practicality of procuring lethal injections due to pharmaceutical companies refusal to sell them for executions.

That essentially put a moratorium on the death penalty.

This is a flip for DeWine, who co-sponsored the 1981 Ohio death penalty law with DeWine now saying he no longer believes in the punishment as a violent crime deterrent.
