I recently went to the movie theater with a friend to see The Devil Wears Prada 2. It’s been 20 years since the first one came out, and so I was eager to see what Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway’s characters have been up to in that time.

The opening scene started off with Anne Hathaway’s character receiving a prestigious journalist award for her work at a New York newspaper. While sitting there, just about to head to the stage, she received notice that her job had been eliminated, and the paper was no more.

How often has this happened to newspapers? When I was growing up, we received our local paper every day. Sundays were always “the big paper,” with plenty of cartoons to look through. I remember our local paper posted everything, from wedding and anniversary announcements, local sports updates, features on graduating seniors, and during deer season, they took photos of everyone with their deer at the local check-in station.… Continue reading
