Farmers for Soil Health program expands opportunities for Ohio growers

Soil health remains a growing priority across Ohio agriculture as producers look for ways to improve productivity, reduce input costs and build resilience against increasingly unpredictable weather. One initiative helping farmers take that next step is the Farmers for Soil Health program, which provides education, technical support and financial incentives to encourage the adoption of cover crops.

The program is a collaborative effort led nationally by commodity organizations and supported in Ohio by partners including The Nature Conservancy, the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association and the Ohio Soybean Council. Jessica D’Ambrosio, Ohio agriculture project director for The Nature Conservancy, said the program is designed to make soil health practices more accessible while helping farmers achieve both economic and environmental goals.

“No one can really argue that agricultural land is land that we shouldn’t be protecting, because our lives depend on it,” she said. “We’re always collaborating with partners to try to get our work done and meet our mutually agreeable goals.”… Continue reading
