Appeals Court Reinstates Lawsuit Against Marathon’s Detroit Refinery

10/27/17 – 9:33 A.M.

A lawsuit facing Marathon Petroleum’s Detroit refinery is moving forward again. The Associated Press reports a federal appeals court revived the suit Thursday. Residents living near the refinery say the facility has contaminated their property and damaged their health.

Marathon previously had asked a judge to dismiss the suit, claiming the statute of limitations had run out. A judge agreed with Marathon, but the appeals court reversed that decision.

The court says anything that happened after late February is relevant to the case.
