Bill Introduced To Ban NIL For High School Athletes In Ohio
(ONN) – Two Cincinnati-area state representatives have filed a bill seeking to end Name, Image and Likeness for high school athletes in Ohio.
House Bill 661 addresses Name, Image and Likeness and was filed by Representatives Adam Bird and Mike Odioso, both Republicans, and both from southwest Ohio.
The bill would prohibit compensation tied to high school athletes’ participation in sports competitions with other schools, as well as their position on team rosters.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports critics worry the state would be moving backward if the bill were to be passed, and become law.
In November, member schools of the Ohio High School Athletic Association voted in favor of an emergency bylaw referendum on Name, Image and Likeness, making Ohio the 45th state to allow NIL at the high school level.
