Former Wood County Firefighter Faces Sex Assault Charges

A former Wood County firefighter stands accused of using his position to sexually assault teenagers. The Review-Times reports Jay Caldwell of Luckey faces two counts of rape and two counts of complicity to sexual battery among other charges. Investigators say he sexually assaulted teens involved in the Troy Township fire department’s Junior Explorers program.

The Wood County grand jury initially indicted Caldwell on 17 counts in 2017. A court dismissed 12 of those counts earlier this year, saying they lacked the specifics needed in the time frame for Caldwell to mount a defense.

The new indictment consolidates many of the earlier indictments.

A statement from the Wood County prosecutor’s office says Caldwell faces more than 50 years in prison if convicted.
