Hardin County Sheriff’s Office Warns Residents About Phone Scam

11/30/17 – 6:52 A.M.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to keep an eye out for another scam. WKTN radio reports people are getting calls from people who say they are giving cash rewards to people for being model citizens. They claim Walmart, Apple, and an out of state bank sponsor the award.

The caller then says you can claim your reward by buying an Apple gift card at Walmart. You’re then told to call a separate number and give the gift card ID number. The scammer claims you’ll get your reward after doing that, but the money never comes.

The sheriff’s office says you should just hang up on these calls.
