Jail Bond In Putnam County Has A High-Tech Component

6/22/18 – 5:31 A.M.

Efforts to keep people who are out of jail on bond in Putnam County on the straight-and-narrow have gone high tech. The Putnam County Sentinel reports the sheriff’s office now has a PassPoint scanning station in place. The machine uses an eye scan and breathalyzer to determine if someone has been drinking or using drugs while out on bond.

Common Pleas Court Judge Keith Schierloh tells the newspaper they’ll use the device to see if they need to take a urine sample for further analysis. Part of a person’s bond will include a requirement that they go to the scanning station twice a week.
