Man Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit
(From Fostoria Police Chief Gabe Wedge)
On March 30, 2026, at approximately 7:58 p.m., a Fostoria Police Department officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a silver 2008 Acura at the intersection of West Culbertson Street and North Union Street, located in the Seneca County portion of the City of Fostoria.
When Officer Moira White activated her cruiser’s emergency lights and siren, the vehicle immediately accelerated and fled the area in an attempt to elude police. The driver was identified as Sean Dayton by Sergeant Brandon Bell prior to Mr. Dayton leaving the initial traffic stop location. Officers were aware that Mr. Dayton had active warrants for his arrest and was connected to a felony theft investigation from the previous day.
Officers pursued Mr. Dayton for approximately 35 minutes through multiple jurisdictions, with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour outside the city limits. After the pursuit re-entered the city, Sergeant Bell terminated the pursuit due to increased pedestrian presence and the driver’s increasingly reckless behavior, including crossing a steep railroad crossing on East Culbertson Street.
Following the termination of the pursuit, officers began canvassing the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle and the suspect. Sergeant Bell subsequently located the vehicle stopped along the roadway in the 800 block of Lynn Street, where Mr. Dayton was observed fleeing on foot. Sergeant Bell and Officer White pursued Mr. Dayton and apprehended him a short distance away as he attempted to enter an unrelated passing vehicle.
Mr. Dayton was transported to Fostoria Community Hospital for medical clearance prior to incarceration and was then transferred to the Seneca County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. At this time, Mr. Dayton has been charged with: ORC 2921.33 – Failure to Comply (Felony of the 3rd Degree), ORC 2925.11 – Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony of the 5th Degree), ORC 2921.33-Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor of the 2nd Degree), ORC 2913.02 – Theft (Felony of the 4th Degree). Additional charges are pending.
No injuries or traffic accidents were reported as a result of this incident. The silver Acura and one police cruiser were disabled due to mechanical issues sustained during the incident.
Nothing further at this time.
