08/10/17 – 12:43 P.M.
Hancock Public Health is warning residents of a mosquito pool that tested positive for West Nile. The pool was collected in the Mt. Blanchard area of the county. So far there have been no human cases of the mosquito-borne disease. Hancock Public Health has contacted local officials and given them mosquito protection information. Health Commissioner Karim Baroudi said that there isn’t much to worry about.
You can protect yourself by removing standing water from around your property. You should also limit outside activities during dusk and dawn, and use insect repellent containing DEET when you are outside.
