New Bill Would Cap Parking Ticket Late Fees, Extend Grace Periods
(ONN) – An Ohio lawmaker wants to limit parking ticket late fees and extend grace periods to pay them.
Northeast Ohio’s District 22 Representative Darnell Brewer says his bill would cap fees at the original ticket amount and the minimum grace period would be extended from 15 to 30 days.
He said when he paid a $25 parking ticket, he discovered $35 in added fees saying, “no ticket should cost more than double what it was.”
He hopes uniform rules will prevent Ohio cities from charging excessive penalties.
Right now, a late penalty in Cleveland will cost you a $10 late fee. In Columbus, the fee is $15.
