New Weather Station Installed

(From Ohio State University – Lima)

Big news for Northwest Ohio’s safety and agriculture!

Ohio State Lima is proud to announce the installation of our new Mesonet weather station.

Positioned near the campus wetlands off Thayer Road, this station is a major win for a region traditionally underserved by major radar hubs.

Because we are located in a “radar hole,” traditional weather data can sometimes overlook low-level activity. This new station fills that gap, providing accurate, near real-time meteorological data that conforms to world standards.

What this means for you:

• For families: More accurate and timely warnings for hazardous conditions

• For farmers: Localized data on soil moisture, temperature at multiple heights, and leaf wetness to guide your field applications

• For students: A new source of real-world data to use in our science curricula

This station is one of 10 currently in the state, with a goal to eventually reach all 88 counties. Special thanks to Nationwide and the Ohio State AgTech Innovation Hub for making this possible!
