Unpaid Traffic Ticket, License Suspension Scam Warning
(From the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office)
We have been made aware of text messages circulating that claim to be from the State of Ohio Department of Vehicles (DMV) about an unpaid traffic ticket and threaten license suspension if payment is not made immediately.
This message is a scam. The message includes a suspicious payment link and urges immediate action. Government agencies such as the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles do not send text messages demanding payment or threatening enforcement through unofficial links.
Signs this is a scam:
- Suspicious web link that is not an official government website
- Urgent threats of license suspension or penalties
- Requests for immediate online payment
If you are concerned about a ticket or your license status, contact the Ohio BMV directly through their official website or phone number.
