Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Revitalizing K9 Program

(From Hancock County Sheriff Michael Cortez)

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the revitalization of our K9 Program and introduce the newest members of our team: K9 Reya and her handler, Deputy Gary Hook.

K9 Reya is a 21-month-old dual-purpose German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix from Slovakia. She and Deputy Hook has undergone six weeks of intensive training and recently graduated on Friday June 26, 2026 from the Excel K9 Training School.

Deputy Hook has served with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office for the past two years and brings extensive experience to the K9 Program, having previously served 19 years with the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 2118 for its generous donation toward the purchase of K9 Reya. Their support and commitment to public safety helped make the revitalization of this important program possible.

Please join us in welcoming K9 Reya to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office family. We look forward to watching Deputy Hook and K9 Reya grow as a team and serve the citizens of Hancock County.
