McComb Wants Parts Of Village Separated From Pleasant Township

6/20/18 – 5:30 A.M.

McComb officials want parts of the village legally separated from Pleasant Township. They’ve presented the Hancock County Commissioners with a letter outlining their request. As it stands now properties annexed into the village still pay real estate taxes to the township in some instances.

The letter says the issue causes “an overlapping governmental structure that historically does not allow for efficient use of time or resources.” The letter says while other Hancock County villages have properties that pay taxes to a township, the township provides services like snow removal in return. McComb officials say that isn’t the case with Pleasant Township.

The goal of the request is to make the township lines identical to the village limits. The commissioners took no action Tuesday.
