New Law Introduced To Protect Kids From Online Predators
(ONN) – There’s a new initiative aimed at protecting kids online.
It’s called “Hailey’s Law” and it’s named after Indiana teen Hailey Buzbee whose remains were found in the Wayne National Forest in Ohio about a month ago.
Hailey’s father, Beau Buzbee, spoke at the Ohio Statehouse during the introduction of Hailey’s Law.
State Senator Michele Reynolds says Hailey’s Law would: make apps verify a person’s age, and if they’re a minor their account has to be linked to a parent’s account.
It would create a lower-level amber alert called a pink alert, and require grooming education for Ohio students, among other things.
According to court documents Hailey had been messaging with a Columbus man named Tyler Thomas on a gaming app.
Hailey was reported missing on January 6.
Several weeks later, Thomas turned himself in to police and eventually led authorities to Buzbee’s remains.
