New Markings Remind People To Walk Their Wheels In Downtown District
(From Findlay Service-Safety Director Rob Martin)
The recent “Walk Your Wheels” markings are intended to provide additional awareness and guidance in portions of our downtown where pedestrian traffic is the heaviest. As our downtown continues to grow and attract more visitors, the City’s goal is to strike a balance between all users of the public right-of-way—pedestrians, cyclists, e-bike riders, scooter users, and motorists alike.
The pedestrian zone falls within the Downtown District, with specific areas designated as “Walk Your Wheels” or dismount zones. These locations are identified through signage and pavement markings and are intended to create a safer and more comfortable environment where pedestrian activity is concentrated.
From a practical standpoint, our objective is not to create unnecessary enforcement actions. Our goal is for individuals to follow the law, practice safe behaviors, and remain mindful of their surroundings and how their actions may impact others. Like many traffic-related ordinances, this is enforceable and will be enforced when circumstances warrant, but we believe education, awareness, and voluntary compliance are the best path forward.
At the end of the day, we want a downtown that is welcoming, safe, and enjoyable for everyone—whether they arrive on foot, by bicycle, on a scooter, or by vehicle.
