Schnipke Sentenced For Role In Nursing Home Death

1/7/19 – 5:28 A.M.

A former nurse at the Hilty Home in Pandora will spend 60 days in jail related to the death of a resident last year. Putnam County Common Pleas Court Judge Keith Schierloh sentenced 32-year-old Megan Schnipke of Columbus Grove last Friday. He also suspended her nursing license. Schnipke is eligible for work release.

A jury convicted Schnipke of forgery and gross patient neglect in November. The charges stemmed from the death of 76-year-old Phyllis Campbell last January. Campbell had dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. She wandered outside of the facility on the night of January 7th and died of hypothermia.

The forgery charge was a result of Schnipke signing a log saying Campbell was in her bed when she had left the home hours before.
