Lawmakers Pass PTSD Support Legislation For First Responders
(WTOL-11) – A new Ohio measure aimed at helping first responders address post-traumatic stress is closer to becoming law.
The legislation would create a commission to help cover treatment costs for firefighters, police officers and other emergency personnel dealing with mental health injuries.
Supporters say first responders regularly face traumatic situations that can leave lasting emotional impacts.
The proposal would allow eligible first responders to seek reimbursement for treatment through a newly created post-traumatic stress injury commission.
The legislation has passed both chambers of the Ohio General Assembly and now awaits the governor’s signature.
