Community Foundation Surpasses Significant Grantmaking Milestone

The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation has reached a historic milestone, surpassing $100 million in total grants awarded to support Hancock County. The milestone comes alongside another significant achievement: the Foundation now stewards more than $200 million in assets, reflecting decades of donor generosity and strong financial management.

“These are two milestones we’d be remiss not to lift up,” said Foundation President and CEO Dr. Brian Treece. “This is truly the power of endowment.”

Since its founding, the Foundation has partnered with donors and nonprofit organizations to improve the quality of life in Hancock County. From early investments in downtown development and parks to long-term support for housing, the arts and human services, the Foundation’s grantmaking has played a role in many of the community’s most visible and impactful projects.

“When we recognize $100 million in grants awarded, it is worth pausing, not simply because of its size, but because of what it represents,” said Kelly Shroll, chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. “Every dollar reflects real investment in our community and a partnership among donors, the Foundation and the nonprofit organizations working every day to meet local needs.”

The Foundation’s growth is driven by its endowment model, which allows funds to be invested over time and used to provide sustainable support for community needs.

“Our grantmaking does not happen by chance or in a single moment,” Shroll said. “It happens because funds are built with care, invested for the long term and allowed to grow.”

That long-term focus has contributed to steady asset growth, enabling the Foundation to expand its impact.

“In 2025, we officially surpassed $200 million in assets thanks to the generosity of so many,” said Chief Financial Officer Richard Brown. “The steady growth in assets has enabled us to reach $100 million in grantmaking, painting a vivid picture of the power of endowment.”

The Foundation’s story began in 1977, when an initial gift established what would become today’s organization. That investment has grown significantly over time, demonstrating how philanthropy can multiply through thoughtful stewardship and community partnership.

Today, the Foundation continues to serve as a catalyst for addressing current needs and planning for future opportunities across Hancock County.

“This has always been about more than celebrating a number,” Treece said. “It is about partnership, trust and a shared vision for this community.”
