Sheriff’s Office Offers Advice On Viewing Big Boy Locomotive

The Union Pacific Big Boy Tour, featuring America’s most powerful steam locomotive, will be traveling through Ohio and is expected to pass through Hancock County on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The locomotive is scheduled to depart Continental, Ohio at 12:15 p.m., and we anticipate it will arrive in Hancock County sometime prior to 1:00 p.m.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office understands the historic significance of this moment and recognizes that many community members may want to be present to witness this unique opportunity and piece of railroad history.
If you plan to view the Big Boy, please make safety your top priority for yourself and for others traveling in the area.
Safety reminders:
Stay off all railroad property, including the tracks, rail yard areas, bridges, and surrounding right-of-way.
Keep roadways clear and do not stop in travel lanes.
Do not park on the roadway in a manner that obstructs traffic or creates a hazard.
Use only safe, legal viewing locations that do not interfere with railroad operations or vehicular traffic.
Be mindful of increased traffic and watch for pedestrians, children, and other motorists.
Never attempt to cross tracks unlawfully or bypass safety barriers.
