State Leaders Working To Keep SNAP Program Operating

(ONN) – One year ago, the largest cuts to food stamps in the program’s history went into effect.

Now, we’re learning the extent of the impact here in Ohio.

Since the Trump administration’s overhaul of the SNAP program, about 100-thousand Ohioans have lost their benefits.

The cuts have hit millions of Americans nationwide — including children, older adults, and people with disabilities who rely on the program.

Now, state leaders say they’re working to keep the program running — but new rules could cost Ohio an estimated $160-million dollars more to maintain SNAP.

Advocates say there is still a chance the cuts could be reversed through a farm bill currently being debated in Congress.
